A New Year

A we ring in the new year, all around us conversations are occurring about resolutions and goals for the year.  I have been seeing posts on Facebook this last week about reading a book each month, and so many people talk about weight loss or health goals, then go buy gym memberships, and by the end of January they have stopped going.

I wonder, with so much pain, feelings of loss, the unknown, confusion, hate/anger and fear, why are we not looking at something deeper? Why not something that pulls us closer to God?

We are created in the image of God.  This is a deep concept (one on which I would love to spend time in conversation with you). For this blog post, know that we are a triad (mind, body, and soul). This triad must have balance.  When we are out of balance, we can’t hear God (clearly), our spirit is in a state of unrest (even if we are unaware), and our whole being longs to be closer to God.

The beginning of the new year is a great time to start afresh in setting your spirit and life balance.  God pours overflowing Grace on us every moment.  Part of the New Year is taking the first step of learning to set time apart to give yourself grace (love) to learn how to balance your life and draw closer to God.

God’s grace will help us learn new ways to draw closer to God, learn about loss and grief, find help to hear God, or simply provide opportunities to give ourselves or reflect to others the love God gives us.

Over the past week, I became aware of how unbalanced my soul was, even without knowing.  We get so wrapped up doing what we need to do (or what we think we need to do), we forget God meets us in the ordinary and wants us to find joy with God in everything we do. To live out this idea, go and cook, paint, read, play with your family, … all with God. I for one will be putting a few things in place in my life to help balance myself as I start this new year.
